Potato Science for the Poor – Challenges for the New Millennium

A Working Conference to Celebrate the International Year of the Potato

Cuzco, Peru, 25-28 March 2008

2008 is the UN International Year of the Potato (IYP). The potato is the most important root and tuber crop in the world and the third most important food crop in the world. The Andean region is the center of domestication and diversity of the potato. CIP holds the largest collection of potato biodiversity in the world, in-trust in its genebanks, and has developed research to utilize potato to contribute to achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially food security and poverty alleviation.

Structure
The meeting will consist of sessions of presentations of invited and submitted papers and poster sessions. The invited papers will set the scene for the subsequent presentations and discussions. One day will be spent at the nearby Potato Park to meet and interact with producers and farmer-researchers.

The language of the meeting will be English.

Venue
The meeting will be held in Hotel Libertador Palacio del Inka in the historical center of the city of Cuzco, Peru.
