Report

To find out the impact in 2003 of the Promotion and Diffusion of Andean Foods offered to entities linked through Novoandino Services, an opinion poll was prepared (annex 1), addressed to the boards of directors of government organisms like SENASA, INIA, the Ministry of Agriculture and INRENA, and also to the international non-governmental institution FAO, whose task is linked to food and agriculture.

ANALYSIS OF THE SURVEY

The questions were oriented toward finding the importance and interest of the above-mentioned institutions in this activity:

Question 1.
General opinion on the Promotion and Diffusion of Andean Products.

The replies generally expressed interest in reaction to the initiative:

-Excellent initiative
-Important for diffusion
-To present our Andean products
-To maintain an innovative stance
-Support these activities for greater diffusion
-Good to have a service to count on to offer our products.

Question 2.
Impact of promotion and diffusion service.

The replies in general were satisfactory:

-The nutritional practices are good and need further diffusion
-Permit finding out about ways of using Andean resources
-Satisfaction with the products consumed.
-The service is unknown at the national level.

Question 3.
Socio-cultural aspects.

The replies presented some alternatives for making better use of the service:

-Allowing the development of these crops, highlighting and revaluating their food value
-Ideas new to the local people for making better use of their resources
-Finding out about the product at the national level
-For the cultural aspect, other measures are needed, such as education
-Pushes cultural development ahead, not necessarily economic development

Question 4.
Presentation of the product on the part of CIP:

The opinions were quite specific, 100% were inclined to approve:

-The presentation was very good
-The seasoning was very good
-The quality of the finished product is very good.

Question 5.
CIP’s continuing this activity:

100% of those polled were inclined to reply favorably.

The motives were:

-Complements government work
-Few entities dedicate themselves to this activity.
-International prestige and credibility are extended to other institutions
-Government entities would not be able to do it very well due to scarce resources
-Research and nutritional consumption come closer together

Question 6.
Interest in participating in workshops on “Novoandino Cuisine” offered by CIP.

Almost 100% are interested in participating. The motives indicated are as follows:

-Public entities need to work institutionally in agrarian innovation
-To learn to prepare desserts, juices, and meals with Andean products.
-It is interesting to participate but not directly
-To improve nutritional quality.
-The national product is good and highly varied
-Lack of knowledge for preparing recipes based on Andean products.

Conclusions:

Judging from the replies, there is an appreciation of a growing interest in this type of services that are seen by the potential users as a possibility for diffusing Andean products, which, in the opinion of those surveyed, requires greater promotion for their nutritional values. Those polled were in favor of CIP’s continuing with this activity, which includes interest in participating in events on Novoandina Cuisine.
