Please note that the Capacity Strengthening Department (CSD) of CIP does not provide direct funding for any individual or group training programs, or for any scholarships, internships, or fellowships. Prospective applicants must arrange their own funding and sponsors. All students conducting research activities at CIP agree to a “Learning and Knowledge Sharing Contract” with the CSD that includes a seminar presentation as part of a work program supervised by a CIP scientist.
The government of Peru supports some funding programs for Peruvian nationals (see table with Spanish links below). Other governments, private foundations or foreign universities may also sponsor students or research projects conducted at CIP based in Lima or at any of CIP’s regional or project offices in Asia, Africa and Latin America. But many of these are the result of various competitions with different application deadlines. Various Divisions or Programs of CIP may have limited funding available for specific projects from time to time. Prospective researchers or students are encouraged to consult the CIP website for more information on the types of research conducted by scientists from specific Divisions or Programs to see where their own research goals might fit. If you already have a confirmed or prospective funding source the CSD can assist in making direct contact with the appropriate scientists at CIP to sponsor and develop a work program or prepare funding applications. Please contact us at CIP-CSD@cgiar.org if you require assistance. For additional information on some (not all) types of research funding sources see the booklet - Compendium of Scholarship and Fellowship Opportunities (World Fish Center, 2008).
Types of Scholarships, Internships and Fellowships at CIP
Scholarships are usually given to foreign and national students that have demonstrated high merits during their education. CIP provides the scholarship students with the materials and information they need to work on their undergraduate or graduate thesis. For additional information on this area, please contact us at CIP-CSD@cgiar.org
Internships are given as short-period employment of a student, principally to Doctoral students, in order to help them finish their PhD. studies. Internships may also be a non-paid (by CIP) research or administrative work experience opportunity of varied duration, either supported by an external sponsoring agency or personal funds, if a CIP scientist agrees to host the intern. For additional information on this area, please contact us at CIP-CSD@cgiar.org
Fellowships are usually given to foreign post graduate and PhD. students to fully or partially coverage of their tuition at a national university (within Peru), or support their own projects and research work, and some reasonable living expenses. This type of support is conditioned to the availability of funds and the relevance of the applicants work to CIP’s research objectives.
