| CD-Rom - Anglophone Africa Training Course on Urban Agriculture | ||
|
Urban Harvest has published an interactive traning CD-Rom entitled: Feeding
Cities in Anglophone Africa with urban agriculture: Concepts, tools and
case studies for practitioners, planners and policy makers based
on the three-week regional training course for Anglophone Africa on Urban
Agriculture from 8 - 26 March, 2004. The seven modules describe the history,
concepts and dynamics of urban agriculture (UA), health impacts of UA,
crop production systems, livestock production and marketing systems,
solid waste management, wastewater re-use, and integration of UA in urban
planning. The CD-Rom is structured from a theoretical and practical
perspective. The former is designed according to the seven modules pertaining
to urban agriculture, whilst the latter takes a different approach by
introducing actor scenarios. Therefore, the user can associate urban
agriculture to a particular person involved in urban agriculture, whether
it is a policy maker or an urban producer or NGO representative working
in the area. The CD-Rom has a ‘tools’ component that provides
information on analytical tools and schemes on key issues on urban agriculture
such as gender issues, conducting research and health risks. *This work could not have been done without the collaboration from a variety of organizations and institutions, which included IDRC’s “Cities Feeding People" program, The Urban Management Program of UN-Habitat, the Municipal Development Partnership of Zimbabwe, the Ministry of Planning of the Government of Kenya, the Resource Center on Urban Agriculture and Food Security, and the International Water Management Institute prepared the course.
