New
Director General at the CIP

Dr.
Hubert Zandstra, who has been Director-General of
the International Potato Center since 1991 has
retired and has been replaced by Dr. Pamela Anderson
who took over as the new Director-General on 1 May
2005. Dr. Zandstra has contributed highly to
CIP, not only in maintaining CIP as a world renowned
research center, but also through supporting sustainable
management of natural resources, the impact of
agriculture on the environment, the conservation and
use of genetic resources and other CIP objectives.
This commitment can be seen with the construction of
the Biodiversity Complex at CIP and the creation
of CONDESAN a
consortium of institutions that work for the
development of the Andean eco-region, and launch of
the Global
Mountain Program initiative, to coordinate
efforts for the development of the Andes, the
Himalayas and mountain chains of the East Africa.
Dr.
Anderson, who has worked at CIP since 2002 as
Deputy Director-General of Research, is an
internationally recognized entomologist and
ecologist from the United States of America. She has
spent more than 25 years working in various
countries of Latin America.
