New Director General at the CIP

June 2, 2005

Dr. Hubert Zandstra, who has been Director-General of the International Potato Center since 1991 has retired and has been replaced by Dr. Pamela Anderson who took over as the new Director-General on 1 May 2005. Dr. Zandstra has contributed highly to CIP, not only in maintaining CIP as a world renowned research center, but also through supporting sustainable management of natural resources, the impact of agriculture on the environment, the conservation and use of genetic resources and other CIP objectives. This commitment can be seen with the construction of the Biodiversity Complex at CIP and the creation of CONDESAN a consortium of institutions that work for the development of the Andean eco-region, and launch of the Global Mountain Program initiative, to coordinate efforts for the development of the Andes, the Himalayas and mountain chains of the East Africa.

Dr. Anderson, who has worked at CIP since 2002 as Deputy Director-General of Research, is an internationally recognized entomologist and ecologist from the United States of America. She has spent more than 25 years working in various countries of Latin America.
