Urban
Harvest supports IDRC-AGROPOLIS awardees for 2003
Luis
Maldonado - a member of the Urban Harvest Research
team in Lima, Peru was recently one of the
recipients of the IDRC-AGROPOLIS
award for Graduate Research in Urban Agriculture for
2003. Luis will be conducting his master's research
on the topic - "Urban agriculture in Lima,
Peru: livelihood strategy and the politics of
municipal management". For more information on

Renee
Sebastian, from the University of Toronto, is
another recipient of the scholarship who is
conducting research in cooperation with Urban
Harvest partners in Uganda. Her
study will examine the role of urban
agriculture in Kampala as it relates to household
food security and child nutritional status. Data
collection for the study began in August 2003 and
will continue until the end of October 2003 to reach
a final sample size of 50 non-farmers and 250
farmers, practicing various farming-styles in the
